Framing Calculators

Estimate studs, plywood, stair parts, and baseboard trim for framing and finish carpentry.

Calculators

Which measurement should I take first?

Start with wall length and stud spacing (16" or 24" on center) for framing counts — most other framing calculators build on the same wall dimensions. If you're sheathing the wall, measure the same span for plywood panel counts. Stair and baseboard calculators instead key off total rise/run and room perimeter, so take those measurements separately once the surrounding walls are framed.

Suggested project order

  1. Stud — frame the wall first; every other framing step depends on it.
  2. Plywood — sheathe the framed wall or floor.
  3. Stair — lay out risers and treads for any floor openings.
  4. Baseboard — finish trim once walls and floors are closed in.
